I know it's more than 3 months old, but around August 06, AOL progammers thought it would be "really cool" to release the search information that 650,000 or so of their members input recently, in the last year. They thought, "hey, if we only replaced their names with numbers, then no one would mind, mirite? mirite?"

what was actually included in the released data were names, addresses, dates of birth (if accurate), social securtiy numbers, and the like. Over an outcry of potential identity theft problems, that data was summarily pulled from the site. So were the AOL staff who released it.
Too late. Although no major cases of identity theft have been going on, the interesting search queues found by bloggers such as somethingawful.com actually confirms our suspicions of what AOL users really are...
